Welcome Start
out on Your Aviation Career at a place that is already a mile high!
The
Aviation and Aerospace Science Department at Metropolitan State College
of Denver is centrally located in downtown Denver - next to the
majestic Rocky Mountains! Our department is the fifth largest collegiate
aviation program in the country. We offer a Bachelor of Science degree
with majors in AVIATION MANAGEMENT with concentrations in
Aerospace Management and Aviation Maintenance Management and
AVIATION TECHNOLOGY, with concentrations in Professional Flight
Officer, Corporate and General Aviation, Aviation Operations,
and Air Traffic Control (Collegiate Training initiative).
We also feature Certificate Programs in Airport Management and
Space Commercialization. Metropolitan State College is the only public
institution in Colorado that offers these four year degree and
certificate programs. Housed in the School of Professional Studies, the
department features a faculty with extensive and diverse professional
experience. Our faculty is dedicated to teaching and helping you become
a successful industry professional!
As a
student, you will benefit from learning in our unique flight simulation
laboratory known as the World Indoor Airport (WIA). The WIA is an
integrated flight and air traffic control simulator lab, featuring 21
flight training devices: 10 single engine Frasca 141s, 2
multi-engine Frasca 142s, 3 multi-engine AST Seminoles with
visuals, and 2 multi-engine turboprop Frasca 242TPs with visuals
as well as 4 Elite desk top models with visuals. Extensive class
and lab use of the simulators is allowed with NO HOURLY FEES when
enrolled in a simulator course. The WIA also features 6 Air
Traffic Controller stations used in the ATC-CTI program. |

Our Aviation
Technology students
may choose to take their flight lessons from independent flight
instructors or at any of the many high quality
flight schools in the area, most of which are within thirty minutes driving time of the campus. Our
affordable tuition and location next to many flight training facilities
makes our program one of the most affordable, high quality, collegiate
aviation programs in the country! In addition, the weather in the
Denver area is conducive to continued progress in flight training due to
the large percentage of VFR (visual flight rules) days -- sunny, clear
days! For those interested in becoming an air traffic
controller, our department has been chosen by the FAA as one of the
ATC- CTI (Collegiate Training Initiative) schools.
The
Aviation
Management program
prepares the graduate to enter a wide variety of administrative
positions within the various segments of the aviation industry,
especially through numerous cooperative education opportunities in
the area at military installations, airports, major aerospace industries
and manufacturers, corporate flight departments, and the many airlines
that serve the Denver area. Also, because of this proximity,
students have the opportunity to visit facilities and to take courses
taught by adjunct faculty with very specific expertise and current on
the job experience in these various positions.
Extra curricular activities
abound for students to network within the aviation communities through
membership in the MSCD Precision Flight Team, the American Association
of Airport Executives, the National Business Aviation Association, and
Alpha Eta Rho.

When you need a break from your studies,
the Rocky Mountains afford
students an abundance of outdoor recreation options including downhill
and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, hiking, mountain-biking, river
rafting, and mountain climbing all within an hour and a half of Denver.
In addition, the campus, being centrally located near downtown Denver,
is within walking distance of the Denver Broncos football stadium, the
Pepsi Center, home to the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche, the
Colorado Rockies' Coors field as well as the Denver Center for the
Performing Arts. |
