Cooperative Education &
Internships
(past examples of COOPs)
Many aviation Cooperative Education jobs and internships are available to AES majors. You may enroll for 12 semester hours of college credit in Cooperative Education courses (AES 3980), only 6 semester hours of which may apply to the degree.

CRN: To be determined by Co-op Office

In this course you will be working at an internship, so there is no formal class time with me. However, to receive a grade for the internship there are a few things you must do.
1. Complete the Application for Academic Credit required by the Cooperative Education office. This is a four-page form. Your supervisor at the internship fills out the first page. Your AES Faculty Advisor fills out the remainder. The completed application must be filed with me NOT LATER THAN TWO WEEKS AFTER YOU BEGIN YOUR INTERNSHIP. Failure to complete this step in the required time will result in a lower grade.
2. Write a weekly journal of your experiences. This should be typewritten and double-spaced. Your journal should document anecdotally what you are doing at your internship. What type of work are you doing? Did you learn something? Did you not learn something? Is this a possible career choice for you? JOURNAL IS DUE WEEKLY. It can be FAXED to 556-6331 or any other method of delivery to be on my desk 8:00 a.m. on Mondays.
3. At least once during the semester I will be contacting your supervisor to get information about how you are doing.
4. At the end of the semester, someone from the Cooperative Education office and I may visit with you and your supervisor at the job site to discuss the experience.
If you have any problems with your internship or if you have questions, please contact your Faculty Advisor or me as soon as possible at the number listed above.
Your grade is based both on how well you perform at the internship and on how well you complete the assigned paperwork. Grades will be lowered if paperwork is not completed on time, journal entries are incomplete, or journals are not turned in weekly.
GRADES - The following items will be used to determine the final grade.
A. Initial paperwork completed in the first two weeks of the semester.
B. Journal entries contain the elements listed in 2.
C. Journal entries arrive weekly.
I hope this internship will be a rewarding growth experience for you.
